Biography

Andrés graduated with a bachelor’s in general biology from The University of Puerto Rico at Cayey, where he focused his studies in molecular cell biology and physiology. As an undergraduate student, he participated in summer research internships at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, Baylor College of Medicine, and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, where he assisted in cancer biology and islet biology projects. He also discovered and characterized four mycobacteriophages as part of his senior thesis at UPR Cayey. He conducted research in the adrenocortical cells during his master’s studies at UCSD, and then joined biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries after graduation. After developing a strong interest in bone biology, Andrés joined the Alliston Lab through the Oral and Craniofacial Sciences Program of the UCSF School of Dentistry.
